BE PREPARED ... BEFORE YOUR PET GOES MISSING ...

A pet can go missing in the blink of an eye, and most unexpectedly.  Perhaps someone left the garden gate open, the front door blew open, your pet backed out of it's collar when a car back fired and ran away in a blind panic, chewed out a window screen, or leaped the fence in terror during a fireworks display.  So many things can happen that can lead to a well loved and protected pet getting lost from it's home.  Are you prepared should this happen to your pet?  Here are some ways to prepare in advance, should your pet unfortunately go missing, that can increase the likelihood of recovering your pet:

1. PET IDENTITY

- collar with ID tag (current contact information)

- MICROCHIP (preferable) or tattoo (less preferable because can fade)

2. PHOTOGRAPHS

So many missing pet listings list only a description because no photo is available.  Having a recent, clear, and identifiable picture can make all the difference in recovering a missing pet or not. Every pet owner should, right now, take two or three photos of their pet which include a face/head profile, and body profile (for cats and patterned dogs take body profile photos of both sides as they can look differently on either side).  Do this for the sole purpose of having immediately accessible photos of your pet should he/she go missing. The last thing you need is to lose precious time looking for photos when you should be out searching.

3. ADD YOUR PET TO HELPING LOST PETS DATABASE (HeLP) ... JUST IN CASE …

Just in case … put your pet(s) photos and contact information on the Helping Lost Pets (HeLP) website at www.helpinglostpets.com and mark the status as SAFE.

In the unfortunate event your pet goes missing in just a few clicks you can change the status to LOST or STOLEN and all HeLP members and organizations in the area will automatically receive the email notification and photo of your missing pet and it will quickly be posted online to social media groups and pages and shared.

The HeLP website will accept many photos on the safe pet listing so should your pet go missing all of the photos can be viewed online by anyone who thinks they have found your pet. This can help reduce the false sightings that can hamper searches.

The HeLP website has many useful features including an android app, searchable database, sighting tracking, and it can generate a poster in about 10 seconds.

There are actually MORE SAFE PETS listed on this site than missing pets.

Your pet's info is completely hidden until you need to send out a missing pet alert.

The database is now completely accessible by ANY smart phone or tablet as well as on your pc and is completely FREE!.

You love your pet so be prepared. It only takes a second for a pet to go missing and the chances of recovering your pet are much greater the sooner you can get the word out.

HeLP ensures your privacy and location are completely protected so you can safely use HeLP to list your pets and be prepared just in case one of them manages to get lost. It can happen so fast ... Do it NOW so you'll be ready!  HeLP is here.

MORE TIPS:

PLEASE check your fences and lock your gates. Many fences are damaged or gates blown open following a storm. Dogs can escape a damaged fence or open gate in a flash, and be gone before you even realize it.
